The last post was a checklist of the bird species posted in this site, 49 species so far. Images of many more birds have been captured and they will be posted here.
Most of the bird species are from the village of Verna in the taluka of Salcette in South Goa. Verna is a super hotspot for birding. While most birders yearn for an image of a Hornbill, I have been blessed to photograph Hornbills from the comforts of my house. Goa has four species of the Hornbill. I have captured three, all from my residence in Verna.
Wader birds found in Verna include the Lesser Whistling Teals, Little Grebe, Garganey, Eurasian Coot, Purple Swamphen, Common Moorhen, Pintails, Knob-billed Ducks, Cotton Pygmy Goose, Bronze-winged Jacana and Pheasant-tailed Jacana.
Other birds found in Verna are the Blue-faced Malkoha, Black-headed Cuckoo Shrike, Bar-winged Cuckoo Shrike, Fan-tail, White-browed Wagtail, Yellow Wagtail, Sunbirds, Red-whiskered Bubul, Red-Vented Bulbul, White-browed Bulbul, Common Iora, Black-lored Tit, Chestnut-tailed Starling, Wooly-necked Stork, Pond Heron, Black-Hooded Oriole, Indian Golden Oriole, Grey-fronted Green Pigeon, Orange-breasted Green Pigeon, Peahens, Slaty-legged Crake, Red Spurfowl, Orange-headed Thrush, Greater Flameback Woodpecker, Yellow-crowned Woodpecker, Brown-capped Pygmy Woodpecker, Rufous Woodpecker, Greater Racket-tailed Drongo, Black Drongo, Bronzed Drongo, Ashy Drongo, Fork-tailed Drongo Cuckoo, Grey-bellied Cuckoo, White-cheeked Barbet, Coppersmith Barbet, Glossy Ibis, Red-caped Ibis, Leaf-birds, Asian Koel, four types of Egrets, Rufous Treepie, Munia, four types of Kingfishers etc. I am tired of writing, named overs 60 species as noted above and plenty more. Verna, truly a birders paradise. Where else in Goa can you find so many bird species in a small area.
I stay in a valley and I am surrounded by mountains in all directions you can name, and that’s the secret behind abundance of Avi-fauna in Verna. The mountains, the forest cover, the grasslands and the lake provide these birds the right type of habitat to survive and breed in Verna.
As noted earlier this site is meant for enjoying a bird in its natural environment. It is not about writing down notes about bird length, wing-span, bill length or any other thing.
So just relax and enjoy many more bird pictures to be posted in this site.
